I want to be very honest with you about something.
I have been both honored and burdened by Adonai/God to sense battles that are not my own…for the purpose of intercession, prayer. Many years ago I learned the truth concerning Halloween and once you learn the truth, it sets you free. (John 8:31-32 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”)
The truth is that no matter how cute the children are, how fun the costumes can be, or where the celebration is held (libraries, schools, churches), the truth is there. We are celebrating ghosts, goblins, demons, and witches as well as blood, terror, deception, masks, and threats (trick or treat). If you are now thinking that I am a religious fanatic wacko that can not take these things lightly or innocently, you would be partially correct.
Most of you know me personally…I don’t do “wacko”, I have a lovely sense of humor, and I am often seen as naive/innocent.
What I can tell you in its simplest form is that I have seen the demonic world, stood right in front of a precious human being held captive by a demon, lost a loved one to murderous intent, and experienced great evil EVERY SINGLE HALLOWEEN. I am not flaky! I am aware and deeply concerned about what we (yes, I include myself) have done and are doing to bring about the evil done in this season.
I have dealt with just such evil in the dark hours of last night. I was happily sitting at my computer working on the videos that we share on our ministry website for Scholar Ministries and BOOM! Some precious human responded to one of our marketplace posts and quickly revealed his true intent. Let’s skip the gore and just call it mental rape. I am not using this term lightly…word pictures forcibly and unexpectedly shoved into your brain by a stranger.
The voices in YOUR head may now be coming up with all sorts of “safety” critiques? The ministry I do REQUIRES that I talk to strangers…a LOT of strangers. I am protected to the extent that it does not interfere with ministry. Even the person who violated my mental space was given a lovely exit note promising prayer before I promptly blocked him.
The POINT is that even I only saw the surface damage and source of the violation…words and a sick human. It took a conversation with my husband this morning to bring clarity! As I shared what happened (because I still believe that the quickest way to rob the enemy of his power is to be truthful) he reminded me that today is Halloween.
I urge you, the Church primarily, with a bit of desperation to consider the situations that are happening in our world today, observe the things you are celebrating, and see if there is a comparison to be made. I will not spoon feed you examples. You are an intelligent creature with an intelligent creator! Please be aware of what is going on around you and do your best to bring as little evil into the world as you can. (I Corinthians 10:12,13 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! 13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.)
I am thankful to my Father, the intelligent Creator, and to the many people in my life who have trained me to know the proper response when faced with exposure to evil! Even these small failed attempts by the demonic world to violate the sanctity of my world absolutely have to be met with the conversational and confrontational power inherent in the Words of my Father.
Every weapon formed against will not prosper. Every tongue that rises against me, I will show to be in the wrong.
God is my fortress and my deliverer! Whom shall I fear, of whom shall I be afraid? When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall. Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident.
God is the strength of my life and my salvation!
I ask you, precious family and friends, to be careful and aware today of all days. I am deeply aware of the battle and I care for your safety! Talk with God about these things and be ready to confront the enemy wherever you find him.
